Kimathi Muiruri

Associate - Cohort 002

Kimathi Muiruri is a devout storyteller. He is constantly striving to apply the logics of illuminative, effective, bold dialogue to projects of memory preservation and transition design.

Prior to joining Normal>Next as a summer associate, he worked on transformational project design in both the private and non-profit sectors.
Most notably, Muiruri worked for St. Louis non-profit Forward Through Ferguson to deliver intuitive and effective solutions for institutions to enhance their commitment to racial equity. This work was received by, among others, the US Bancorp Community Development Corporation and United Way St. Louis.

He also worked as an analyst for McKinsey & Company, helping deliver high-level systems change to clients across several sectors.

He is a rising senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in history and environmental studies. Muiruri’s academic interests include colonial encounters in modern South/West Africa, green energy, water quality, environmental justice, and Roman political history. He is a Morehead-Cain Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa inductee.

On campus, Muiruri is an active member of both the poetry and academic research communities. He is also an editor for the UNC Journal of History and a member of the Men’s Rugby team. In the future, he hopes to be a changemaker for urban life, land, and water restoration in North America.
