Hunter Davis

Associate - Cohort 001

Hunter Davis is fascinated by applying rigorous mathematical thinking to the messiness of real-world problems.

As a member of the first cohort of summer associates at Normal>Next, Davis invented a way for educators to move courses online, leveraging the most effective approaches to distance learning easily and quickly.

Data-driven systems analysis projects have included working with the Albuquerque, New Mexico Mayor’s Office to help develop a program to train officers to deal with mental health crises. Foreshadowing the current day, these trainings were conducted through Zoom with a framework developed by UNM’s Project ECHO.

Davis also worked with UBS, the Swiss multinational investment bank and financial services company, developing quantitative financial models for future investment products.

He is a rising Senior at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and comparative literature. His academic interests include complex systems, set theory, Joyce, and d’Espagnat. He is a Morehead-Cain scholar and Phi Beta Kappa inductee.

On-campus projects have included helping organize and run a conference to recommend sustainable development goals for the United Nations, and co-founding a student venture that designed, built, and operates a completely student-run escape room.

Davis is a trained crisis counselor. He has also worked as a sailing instructor and chess tutor. He spent 3 weeks backpacking, mountaineering, and rock climbing in the Wyoming wilderness.
